About the Dufourspitze

The Dufourspitze (4,634 m) is the highest peak in Switzerland and the crown of the mighty Monte Rosa massif. This two-day ascent via the Monte Rosa Hut is one of the great classic climbs of the Alps.

On day one, we approach the hut from Rotenboden with a 3–4 hour glacier hike. After dinner and a gear check, we rest before the early start.

Day two starts early — around 2:00 AM — with a long climb over glaciated terrain and an exposed ridge to the summit. Expect a mix of snow, ice, and rock at the top. After reaching the summit, we descend back the same way and return to Zermatt by late afternoon or early evening.

This tour is for experienced alpinists with strong fitness and prior glacier travel. You'll be guided and roped together with an experienced IFMGA mountain guide throughout.

Summit day means up to 12+ hours on the move with around 1,800m of ascent at altitude. Train with long hiking days and sustained cardio in the months before.

Demanding — experienced alpinists

Alpine Experience
