About the Breithorn

The Breithorn is one of the most accessible 4,000-meter peaks in the Alps, making it a perfect introduction to high-altitude mountaineering. Located on the Swiss-Italian border, the mountain offers a high-alpine glacier experience with minimal technical requirements.

You start the climb from the Klein Matterhorn lift station. Starting from 3,883 meters, you'll climb approximately 300 vertical meters to reach the West Summit at 4,165 meters. It's accessible as a day tour from Zermatt, and you'll be back around lunch time.

The route is on glacier terrain, offering fantastic views of the Matterhorn, Monte Rosa, and the surrounding 4,000m peaks of the Pennine Alps. Your IFMGA-certified guide will teach essential glacier travel techniques, crampon use, and rope work. You will be roped with the guide for the entire climb.

The Breithorn can be climbed on foot during summer months or as a ski tour in winter.
