About Vallée Blanche

The Vallée Blanche is a well-known off-piste ski route in Chamonix, starting from the Aiguille du Midi at 3,842m and running about 20 km down through glaciated terrain. It’s not a marked or controlled, so a good skiing level is needed to handle different snow conditions, crevasses, and some steeper sections.

The day starts with a cable car ride to the Aiguille du Midi. From there, you’ll put on harness & crampons and walk down an exposed ridge to reach the start of the descent. You will be roped with the guide here. The guide will choose the best route based on conditions and group level. The terrain varies from wide open slopes to steeper sections, with different route options depending on snow and weather. If conditions allow, you can ski all the way to Chamonix. Otherwise, the descent ends at Montenvers, where a train ride is needed to get back down.

The Vallée Blanche is weather and snow-dependent. If it’s not safe due to bad visibility, avalanche risk, or poor snow cover, the guide will take you off-piste skiing elsewhere in Chamonix.

Note: Vallée Blanche requires good conditions and a competent skiing level. It’s not suitable for beginners or those uncomfortable with off-piste terrain. The guide will will suggest alternative skiing if the conditions disallow Vallée Blanche, or if the level of the skiers if insufficient.

"We skied Vallée Blanche in nice conditions. We were unsure of the descent on the ridge at first as we had no crampon experience, but it was fine and it felt safe being roped with the guide. Very cool run!"
